JBL Live 770NC Review: 65-Hour Battery and Adaptive ANC

The JBL Live 770NC are wireless over-ear headphones focused on long battery life, powerful JBL sound, Adaptive Noise Cancelling and everyday comfort.

They feature 40mm drivers, True Adaptive Noise Cancelling, Smart Ambient, JBL Spatial Sound, Bluetooth 5.3 and multipoint connectivity.

JBL Live 770NC Specs

JBL also includes auto play/pause, voice-assistant integration, TalkThru, Ambient Aware and support for the JBL Headphones app.

Sound Quality

The Live 770NC use 40mm drivers with JBL Signature Sound.

Their default tuning emphasizes bass, making them especially enjoyable for electronic music, hip-hop, pop, movies and casual everyday listening.

JBL Spatial Sound can also turn regular stereo content into a more spacious virtual surround experience.

The JBL Headphones app provides additional EQ and personalization through Personi-Fi 2.0.

Active Noise Cancellation

The headphones use True Adaptive Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient.

JBL uses four noise-sensing microphones to continuously adjust ANC depending on your surroundings. Smart Ambient lets outside sounds through when you need more awareness.

Independent RTINGS testing found the noise cancellation useful for commuting and office environments, although it does not reach the class-leading ANC performance of some more expensive flagship headphones.

Battery Life

Battery life is one of the Live 770NC’s biggest strengths.

JBL rates them for up to 65 hours with ANC off and up to 50 hours with ANC enabled. A five-minute quick charge provides up to four additional hours of playback.

That makes them particularly convenient for travel and users who do not want to charge their headphones every few days.

Bluetooth 5.3 & Multipoint

The Live 770NC support Bluetooth 5.3 and can connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

For example, you can keep them connected to your laptop and smartphone and switch between a movie and an incoming call.

JBL also lists LE Audio support, although availability can depend on firmware and compatible source devices.

Comfort

The Live 770NC weigh approximately 256g and feature a comfort-fit fabric headband.

The headphones also fold for easier transport and include a carrying pouch.

RTINGS found them generally comfortable, although fit can affect sound consistency and the included pouch offers less protection than a hard case.

Call Quality

Two beamforming microphones handle voice calls.

They are suitable for normal calls and online meetings, but microphone quality is not a major strength. RTINGS found voices can sound somewhat muffled, particularly in challenging environments.

Pros & Cons

Pros: Excellent battery life, 50 hours with ANC, bass-heavy JBL sound, Adaptive ANC, Smart Ambient, Bluetooth multipoint, Spatial Sound, customizable EQ, comfortable folding design and wired listening.

Cons: ANC is not class-leading, microphone performance is average, no official water-resistance rating, soft carrying pouch offers limited protection, and the newer Live 780NC has now replaced this model.

Verdict

The JBL Live 770NC are excellent mid-range wireless headphones for users who prioritize battery life, strong bass and useful everyday features.

Their combination of 50-hour ANC battery life, Smart Ambient, Spatial Sound, multipoint Bluetooth and app-based customization makes them particularly good for commuting, travel and everyday music.

The main compromises are average microphone performance and ANC that falls short of premium Bose and Sony models. The newer Live 780NC has also replaced them in JBL’s lineup.

That makes the Live 770NC especially attractive when available at a significant discount.
