Google Pixel 9 Review: Excellent Camera and Smart AI Features

The Google Pixel 9 256GB is a premium Android smartphone featuring a 6.3-inch OLED 120Hz display, Google Tensor G4 processor, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and an advanced dual-camera system.

It focuses heavily on photography, AI-powered software, long-term updates, and a clean Android experience.

Google Pixel 9 Specs

Performance

The Google Tensor G4 works together with 12GB RAM to provide smooth performance for everyday apps, photography, multitasking and Google’s AI features.

It handles:

• Social media
• Web browsing
• Streaming
• Photo editing
• Multitasking
• Mobile gaming
• AI tools

Tensor G4 is particularly optimized around Google’s software and computational photography rather than simply chasing benchmark performance.

6.3-Inch OLED Display

The Pixel 9 features a 6.3-inch 1080 × 2424 OLED Actua display with a refresh rate between 60Hz and 120Hz.

Google rates the panel for up to 1,800 nits HDR brightness and 2,700 nits peak brightness.

The display is excellent for movies, gaming, photos and everyday browsing.

Camera

The Pixel 9 uses an advanced dual-camera system:

50MP Main Camera
48MP Ultra-Wide Camera with Macro Focus

The main camera includes optical image stabilization, while the ultra-wide camera features autofocus.

Google also provides Super Res Zoom up to 8x.

Pixel Camera Features

Google’s software remains one of the Pixel 9’s biggest strengths.

Camera and editing features include:

• Night Sight
• Astrophotography
• Macro Focus
• Add Me
• Magic Eraser
• Best Take
• Photo Unblur
• Portrait Mode

The biggest camera limitation is the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens.

Video

The Pixel 9 records 4K video at up to 60fps with both the rear and front cameras.

It also supports:

• 10-bit HDR video
• Audio Magic Eraser
• Macro Focus Video
• Optical stabilization
• Cinematic Blur
• Slow motion up to 240fps

Battery Life

The Pixel 9 uses a 4,700mAh battery.

Google rates it for 24+ hours of normal battery life and up to 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver, although actual runtime depends on usage.

Fast wired charging can reach around 55% in 30 minutes using Google’s 45W charger, sold separately.

Wireless charging reaches up to 15W with the Pixel Stand (2nd gen) or up to 12W with compatible Qi EPP chargers.

256GB Storage

This version includes:

256GB Storage
12GB RAM

The larger 256GB capacity is a better choice than the 128GB model for users storing lots of photos, videos and apps.

There is no microSD card slot.

Dual SIM

The Pixel 9 supports Dual SIM using one physical Nano-SIM and one eSIM.

This is useful for keeping separate personal and work numbers or for using a travel eSIM.

Design & Durability

The Pixel 9 weighs approximately 198g and uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back.

It also carries an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

Available colours include Obsidian, Porcelain, Wintergreen and Peony.

Software Support

Google promises the Pixel 9 seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates from its original availability.

That makes long-term software support one of the Pixel 9’s biggest advantages.

Verdict

The Google Pixel 9 256GB is an excellent Android phone for photography, AI features and everyday use.

Its 50MP main camera, excellent 48MP ultra-wide camera, 120Hz OLED display, 12GB RAM and seven-year software commitment make it a strong long-term smartphone.

The main compromises are the lack of a telephoto camera and relatively modest charging speeds.

For users who prioritize camera quality, clean Android software and smart AI features, the Pixel 9 remains a very capable option.
