Picture Quality
The QN90D uses Quantum Matrix Technology with Mini LEDs to provide precise local dimming and strong contrast.
Independent testing found excellent black levels with relatively little blooming, along with excellent HDR brightness and very strong SDR brightness.
This makes the QN90D particularly strong for:
- Movies
- Sports
- HDR streaming
- Bright living rooms
- Gaming
Bright-Room Performance
Brightness is one of the QN90D’s biggest strengths.
RTINGS found it exceptionally bright in SDR and excellent in HDR, making it particularly suitable for rooms with plenty of ambient light.
Samsung also includes an anti-reflection treatment and Ultra Viewing Angle technology.
144Hz Gaming
The QN90D is a strong TV for gaming.
It supports:
- 4K at up to 144Hz
- HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four HDMI inputs
- Variable Refresh Rate
- FreeSync Premium Pro
- Auto Low Latency Mode
- HGiG
- Samsung Gaming Hub
This makes it especially attractive for high-end gaming PCs, while PlayStation and Xbox users can take advantage of 4K/120Hz.
RTINGS measured very low input lag, although it also found some visible motion blur from slower pixel transitions in Game Mode.
HDR
Samsung uses Neo Quantum HDR+ with HDR10+ Adaptive and HDR10+ Gaming support.
HDR highlights can get extremely bright, producing an impressive image in movies and games.
The major limitation is that Samsung still does not support Dolby Vision on this model. RTINGS also notes the absence of Dolby Vision as one of its main home-theater disadvantages.
AI Upscaling
The NQ4 AI Gen2 Processor powers Samsung’s 4K AI Upscaling.
It analyzes lower-resolution content and attempts to improve sharpness and detail when displayed on the 4K panel.
Independent testing found the QN90D particularly good at upscaling lower-resolution content.
Sound Quality
The QN90D has a surprisingly capable built-in audio system:
60W output
4.2.2-channel speakers
Dolby Atmos
Object Tracking Sound+
Q-Symphony
Adaptive Sound Pro
Object Tracking Sound+ attempts to position audio based on movement on the screen.
Q-Symphony can also combine compatible Samsung soundbars with the TV’s internal speakers.
Smart TV Features
The QN90D runs Samsung’s Tizen Smart TV platform.
Features include:
- Netflix and major streaming apps
- Samsung TV Plus
- Gaming Hub
- Alexa
- Apple AirPlay
- SmartThings
- Matter smart-home integration
- Multi View
The built-in SmartThings hub is particularly useful for users with Samsung and Matter-compatible smart-home devices.
Connectivity
The 75-inch QN90D includes:
- 4× HDMI
- 4K/144Hz support on all four HDMI inputs
- eARC
- 2× USB-A
- Ethernet

Four high-bandwidth HDMI ports are a major advantage for users connecting multiple game consoles and gaming PCs.

Verdict
The Samsung QN90D 75-inch is an excellent premium Mini LED TV for users who want a large, bright display for movies, sports and gaming.
Its biggest strengths are outstanding brightness, effective Mini LED local dimming, excellent 4K upscaling and 4K/144Hz gaming support across all four HDMI ports.
The main drawbacks are the lack of Dolby Vision and reduced HDR brightness in Game Mode.
Since Samsung now sells the newer QN90F generation, the QN90D becomes especially attractive when available at a substantial discount.
