Acer Chromebook 314 Review: Affordable 14-Inch Chromebook for Everyday Use

The Acer Chromebook 314 CBOA314-2H-81V7 is a lightweight 14-inch Chromebook designed for school, web browsing, streaming, Google apps, and everyday productivity.

It features a MediaTek Kompanio 540 octa-core processor, 4GB LPDDR5X RAM, 64GB eMMC storage, Wi-Fi 6E, and a 14-inch WUXGA IPS display.

Acer Chromebook 314 Specs

Performance

The MediaTek Kompanio 540 is designed for efficient Chromebook performance rather than demanding desktop workloads.

It is well suited for:

• Google Chrome
• Gmail
• Google Docs
• Google Classroom
• YouTube
• Netflix
• Video calls
• Android apps
• Light multitasking

Acer positions the Kompanio 540 Chromebook 314 as an everyday laptop for students and families.

For basic ChromeOS use, performance should be sufficient.

However, users who regularly keep many browser tabs open may find the 4GB RAM restrictive.

14-Inch WUXGA Display

One of the Chromebook 314’s strongest features is its 14-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS display.

The 16:10 aspect ratio provides more vertical workspace than a traditional 16:9 screen, making it useful for documents, websites, and schoolwork.

The display also includes:

• IPS technology
• Anti-glare coating
• Acer ComfyView
• 60Hz refresh rate
• 45% NTSC color coverage

The screen is good for everyday productivity and streaming, although its limited color gamut makes it less suitable for professional photo or video editing.

4GB RAM

The Chromebook includes 4GB LPDDR5X memory according to Acer’s official specifications.

ChromeOS is generally less demanding than Windows, so 4GB can still handle basic tasks.

However, 8GB would be preferable for heavier multitasking.

64GB eMMC Storage

You get 64GB of eMMC storage.

This is enough for ChromeOS, apps, documents, and some offline files, but it is much smaller than the SSD storage found in most Windows laptops.

Google Drive and other cloud storage services will likely be important for users with larger file collections.

Wi-Fi 6E

The Chromebook 314 supports Wi-Fi 6E, which is a strong feature for an affordable Chromebook.

It also supports Bluetooth 5.3 or newer.

Wi-Fi 6E can provide faster and less congested wireless connectivity when paired with a compatible router.

Ports

The Acer Chromebook 314 provides a surprisingly useful selection of ports:

• 2× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C
• 2× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A

Having four USB ports is excellent for a lightweight Chromebook and gives you plenty of flexibility for accessories.

Webcam

The laptop includes a 720p webcam with a privacy shutter.

It is suitable for:

• Google Meet
• Zoom
• Online classes
• Basic video calls

The resolution is fairly basic compared with newer 1080p webcams.

Battery Life

Acer lists up to 10 hours of video playback and up to 12 hours of web browsing for WUXGA versions of the Chromebook 314.

Actual battery life will depend on brightness, Wi-Fi activity, applications, and workload.

For school or everyday portable use, battery life should be one of this Chromebook’s stronger features.

Portability

The Chromebook 314 weighs approximately 2.87 lb / 1.3 kg and is only about 17.9mm thick.

That makes it easy to carry to school, work, coffee shops, or while traveling.

Verdict

The Acer Chromebook 314 CBOA314-2H-81V7 is a good affordable Chromebook for students, families, and everyday web users.

Its biggest advantages are the sharp 14-inch WUXGA IPS display, Wi-Fi 6E, long battery life, lightweight design, and excellent USB connectivity.

The main limitations are 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage, so it isn’t ideal for heavy multitasking or demanding professional workloads.

For browsing, Google Docs, schoolwork, streaming, and basic everyday computing, the Chromebook 314 offers a practical and portable package.
