Hisense officially lists 2,048 local dimming zones and up to 5,000 nits for the 65-inch U88QG.
Mini-LED PRO Picture Quality
The U88QG uses Mini-LED PRO backlighting combined with Quantum Dot technology.
The 2,048 local dimming zones allow the TV to control bright and dark areas much more precisely than conventional LED TVs.
Independent testing of the equivalent U8QG found:
- Very deep blacks
- Minimal blooming
- Excellent contrast
- Vibrant colors
- Exceptional HDR brightness
Up to 5,000 Nits HDR
Brightness is one of the U88QG’s biggest strengths.
Hisense advertises up to 5,000 nits peak brightness, making it especially suitable for bright rooms and impactful HDR highlights.
Independent testing of the 65-inch U8QG measured peak HDR brightness at roughly 4,000 nits in some test conditions, showing that the TV is genuinely extremely bright even if real-world results vary from Hisense’s maximum claim.
Dolby Vision IQ & HDR10+
The U88QG supports a wide range of HDR formats:
Dolby Vision IQ
Dolby Vision
HDR10+ Adaptive
HDR10+
HDR10
HLG
This gives it excellent compatibility across streaming services, UHD Blu-rays and gaming.
Native 165Hz Gaming
Gaming is another major strength.
The U88QG supports:
4K up to 165Hz
VRR from 48–165Hz
AMD FreeSync Premium Pro
ALLM
Game Mode Ultra
Enhanced Game Bar
RTINGS found input lag low at high refresh rates, making the TV very responsive for PC and console gaming.
288Hz Game Mode
The advertised 288Hz mode is not 4K/288Hz.
The TV can reach 1080p at up to 288Hz, while its maximum 4K refresh rate is 165Hz.
This mode is mainly useful for competitive PC gaming.
Three HDMI 2.1 Ports
The U88QG includes three HDMI 2.1 ports, all supporting high-bandwidth gaming features.
HDMI 3 also handles eARC.
This is enough for most setups, but users connecting a PS5, Xbox, gaming PC and eARC soundbar simultaneously may find three HDMI ports limiting.
USB-C Video Input
A particularly unusual feature is the multi-functional USB-C port.
Hisense says it supports video input, data transfer and up to 10W device charging.
RTINGS also confirms that USB-C can act as an alternate display connection for a PC.
However, VRR and 1080p/288Hz do not work through the USB-C display connection, so HDMI remains better for maximum gaming performance.
Hi-View AI Engine PRO
The Hi-View AI Engine PRO analyzes scenes and adjusts:
- Contrast
- Skin tones
- Color
- Image detail
- Sound
- Energy usage
Independent testing also found very good upscaling and strong low-quality content smoothing.
4.1.2 Dolby Atmos Audio
Built-in audio is unusually powerful.
The U88QG includes a 72W 4.1.2-channel sound system with Dolby Atmos and a built-in subwoofer.
The system includes side-firing and upward-firing speakers, providing more immersive audio than the basic 2-channel systems found in many competing TVs.
IMAX Enhanced
The U88QG is IMAX Enhanced certified.
This provides support for compatible IMAX picture presentation and DTS-based immersive audio content.
Google TV
The TV runs Google TV and includes:
- Google Assistant
- Hands-free voice control
- Apple AirPlay
- Apple HomeKit
- Alexa compatibility
- Major streaming apps
It also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
Bright-Room Performance
With extremely high SDR and HDR brightness, the U88QG performs very well in bright rooms.
RTINGS found it capable of overcoming indirect ambient light easily.
However, direct reflections can still be distracting despite Hisense’s Anti-Reflection PRO treatment.
Motion Performance
The 165Hz refresh rate is excellent on paper, but pixel response is not perfect.
RTINGS found slower pixel transitions can produce visible blur around fast-moving objects, particularly in gaming and sports.
OLED TVs still have an advantage for pure motion clarity.
