Mini LED Picture Quality
The BRAVIA 5 uses thousands of Mini LEDs controlled by XR Backlight Master Drive.
This gives the TV better local control over bright and dark areas than a conventional LED television.
Sony also includes XR Triluminos Pro for wider color reproduction and XR Contrast Booster 10 for contrast enhancement.
XR Processor
Sony’s XR Processor handles:
- 4K upscaling
- Color enhancement
- Contrast processing
- Noise reduction
- Motion processing
Sony also uses XR Clear Image to improve lower-resolution and compressed content.
This is one of the BRAVIA 5’s strongest areas. RTINGS found its upscaling excellent and its processing of lower-quality streaming content very good.
Dolby Vision HDR
The BRAVIA 5 supports:
Dolby Vision
HDR10
HLG
It also offers several Dolby Vision picture modes, including Bright, Dark and Game.
Dolby Vision support is a major advantage for users who watch Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and UHD Blu-ray content.
RTINGS found HDR tracking accurate, although HDR brightness itself is more moderate than on some brighter premium Mini LED competitors.
120Hz Gaming
The native 120Hz panel supports:
4K/120Hz
VRR
ALLM
HDMI 2.1
Auto HDR Tone Mapping for PS5
Auto Genre Picture Mode
The TV works especially well with PlayStation 5 thanks to Sony-specific integration.
Input lag is low, but RTINGS found pixel response relatively slow for a modern 120Hz gaming TV, resulting in more motion blur than on OLED or faster Mini LED competitors.
Only Two 4K/120Hz HDMI Ports
The BRAVIA 5 includes four HDMI ports, but this is an important limitation:
HDMI 3 and HDMI 4 support 4K/120Hz and VRR.
HDMI 1 and 2 are limited to 4K/60Hz for high-resolution gaming.
One of the two high-bandwidth ports is also used for eARC, which can be inconvenient if you connect:
- PS5
- Xbox Series X
- Gaming PC
- eARC soundbar
at the same time.
Sound Quality
The BRAVIA 5 has a 40W Acoustic Multi-Audio system consisting of two full-range speakers and two tweeters.
It supports:
- Dolby Atmos
- DTS
- Acoustic Center Sync
- Voice Zoom 3
- 3D Surround Upscaling
Acoustic Center Sync can also integrate the TV with compatible Sony soundbars and home-theater systems.
Google TV
The BRAVIA 5 uses Google TV with access to the Google Play Store and major streaming platforms.
It also supports:
- Google Cast
- Apple AirPlay
- Apple HomeKit
- Voice Search
- Built-in microphone
Google TV remains one of the more flexible smart-TV platforms for streaming apps.
Bright-Room Performance
The BRAVIA 5 gets bright enough in SDR to handle many normally lit living rooms.
RTINGS found SDR brightness very good, but direct reflections can still be distracting because the TV lacks Sony’s premium anti-reflection treatment.
So placement opposite a large window should be avoided when possible.

Verdict
The Sony BRAVIA 5 65-inch is a strong Mini LED TV for movies, streaming and PlayStation 5 owners.
Its biggest strengths are Sony’s excellent XR image processing, Mini LED local dimming, Dolby Vision, accurate HDR presentation and superb upscaling.
The biggest compromise is gaming connectivity: only two HDMI ports support 4K/120Hz and VRR, and motion clarity is not as strong as on fast OLED TVs.
For buyers who value movie processing and Sony’s cinematic presentation more than maximum gaming performance, the BRAVIA 5 is a compelling 65-inch Mini LED option.
